Having special pieces at your dining room table makes the visual presentation just as good as the food itself. Today we see what handmade can bring to our tables.

My first handmade pick is a Turquoise Pottery Platter by Frankel Artworks. This platter feature and elegant lace pattern that has been imprinted in the clay. The texture on this platter is incredible and show the variegation of color in the glaze. It is food safe but, can also double as a decorative feature in your home. I am loving the uniqueness of this one of a kind piece which simply crazy Boho!

California Girl Hand-blown Drinking Glass

My next pick is the California Girl Hand-blown Drinking Glass by Gina Zetts. The glass has fabulous texture and color from being hand blown. Then the glass is lovingly sandblasted to add intricate design on the surface of the cup. All of these details make it a wonderful departure from your everyday drinking glass and turn an ordinary drink into a special moment.

Bocote Salt & Pepper Mill Set 10”

My last handmade selection is the Bocote Salt & Pepper Mill Set 10” by The Kings Woodshop. When I saw this set the exotic Bocote wood instantly stood out with the beautiful grain of the wood. The dramatic dark brown and black streaks and swirls give an earthy Bohemian flavor sure to whet the appetite at the table. The craftsmanship and style of this Salt & Pepper Mill set will ensure this becomes a treasured and well used item at your dining table.

Dining is a complete sensory experience that uses our sense of smell, touch, taste, and our sight to make it complete. Each of these handmade pieces not only give beautiful form but, great function as well allowing you to serve it up in style. Sometimes the addition of just one statement piece is really all you need. A touch of color, a bit of texture, or a special shape. When serving up Boho style keep these things in mind when you look to make your meals a little more special.

DIY Boho-chic Cloth Napkins

14 Sep

Today’s tutorial is part of a 2 part series of crafts for a Boho-chic Style Table. We are starting off with Boho-Chic Cloth Napkins because it’s a simple way to add
color and beauty to your dining table. At home my family uses them at almost
every meal. Using cloth napkins makes meal time feel a bit more special, almost
like eating out!  These cloth napkins are also a money saver because you will reduce your paper napkin use by using these at meal times instead of paper. You can purchase budget upholstery fabric for $4 a yard or less at your local fabric store making these napkins a steal at a buck a piece. Be sure to choose a funky and fun fabric to bring a Boho-chic touch to your dining table!

Cloth Napkin Instructions:
Sewing Level EASY

Makes 4 Napkins (approximately
12” x 13”) or 33 cm x 34 cm

You will need:

½ yard of upholstery fabric (most are 55” wide)

Matching thread

Scissors

Regular Sewing machine

1 Heavy Duty sewing needle size 110/18 (for denim,
upholstery fabric, and topstitching)

**Tip: Using upholstery fabric insures the napkins
will resist stains and be wrinkle free after you wash them.**

Directions:

  1. Fold you fabric in half making sure the edges
    are even.
  2. Cut of selvage from your fabric. This is the white
portion on the edge with color swatch circles and name of fabric. ( Fig 1.)
  3. Next cut the fabric into 4 equal pieces of a
size of your choice or (use my measurement and make each square that measure 13” x 14”.) (Fig. 2)
  4. Thread your sewing machine with matching thread and make sure you are using a heavy duty needle for upholstery fabric. (I used  black so you can see the stitches)
  5. Turn fabric over so the back of the fabric is  facing up.
  6. Starting with two sides that are on opposite sides of each other fold over the edges ¼” on each side and press with a steam iron. (Fig. 3)
  7. On those same sides fold over the edges ¼”again, press with a steam iron and pin in place. (Fig 4).
  8. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the remaining sides. (Fig.5)
  9. Use a straight stitch with the length set on 5 and sew around all the edges. (Fig.6)
  10. Trim away any hanging thread.
  11. Iron one more time and they are ready for the table now. (Fig. 7)

Care for your napkins by washing them in the laundry with your colored clothing. Wash and dry on your normal setting and put them away until you are ready to use them again.

This handmade selection is an Abstract Modern Table Lamp by Wild Lyte. This lamp is a piece of illuminated art. The lampshade was made by hand painting the beautiful colors of the sun into an abstract design. The base is made from wood and hand finished for a warm look. This piece is perfect for adding a touch of the sun to your room. The warm glow from the illuminated shade will cast  beautiful beams of color
on your walls and furnishing adding a dash of Boho to any interior.

Bohemian Coiled Multi-colored Mat

Bohemian Coiled Multi-colored Mat

The last handmade item is a Bohemian Coiled Mat by Yellow Violet. This beautiful Large Bohemian Multicolored Mat is made from random strips of many different fabrics all made from 100% cotton. Each strip is wrapped around cording, coiled and
then sewn. I love the casual elegance and color of this mat. This would be fantastic on your dining room table or coffee table as a colorful interior accent.

So today we have checked out my favorite picks Boho home accessories. Thess selections are all handmade and very beautiful. Sometimes we crave just a bit of change to our homes décor without the price of a full home overhaul. All of this goes to showyou don’t have to buy everything Bohemian to enjoy a bit of spice!
